Dwindling.

Listening to: "Everybody Talks" by: Neon Trees

Human interaction is dwindling.  It's quite sad.  I was walking back from class to my dorm room and there were five people in a row with their heads down staring at their phones texting--not paying any attention to the beautiful campus around them or the wonderful people with diverse beliefs and adventurous stories to tell.  Then the next set of people I walked by all had their ears plugged up with music zoned in with tunes--not a single one was smiling or listening to the birds chirp, squirrels scratch, buses rumble around the drillfield, and the hustle and bustle of people walking to their next class.

Time.

Listening to: "Firework" by: Katy Perry

I wish there were more
minutes in a day, more time.
A thought so sublime.

Serene and pleasant.
Quiet breezes through the trees.
Not a single bee.

Something old, Something new, Something borrowed, Something Blue...

Listening to: "San Francisco" by: Vanessa Carlton

Q: Where did the wedding custom of "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue" come from?

A:  The next line of this old saying actually hints at its origin. The complete phrase is:

Something old, something new
Something borrowed, something blue
And a silver sixpence in her shoe.
A sixpence is a coin that was minted in Britain from 1551 to 1967. It was made of silver and worth six pennies. So this wedding tradition is definitely English, and many sources say that it began in the Victorian era. Each item in this poem represents a good-luck token for the bride. If she carries all of them on her wedding day, her marriage will be happy. "Something old" symbolizes continuity with the bride's family and the past. "Something new" means optimism and hope for the bride's new life ahead. "Something borrowed" is usually an item from a happily married friend or family member, whose good fortune in marriage is supposed to carry over to the new bride. The borrowed item also reminds the bride that she can depend on her friends and family.
As for the colorful item, blue has been connected to weddings for centuries. In ancient Rome, brides wore blue to symbolize love, modesty, and fidelity. Christianity has long dressed the Virgin Mary in blue, so purity was associated with the color. Before the late 19th century, blue was a popular color for wedding gowns, as evidenced in proverbs like, "Marry in blue, lover be true."
And finally, a silver sixpence in the bride's shoe represents wealth and financial security. It may date back to a Scottish custom of a groom putting a silver coin under his foot for good luck. For optimum fortune, the sixpence should be in the left shoe. These days, a dime or a copper penny is sometimes substituted, and many companies sell keepsake sixpences for weddings.

Got this from here. More info about this poem here.

Holi Celebration

Listening to: "Wherever You Will Go" originally by: The Calling--Cover by: Boyce Avenue

(I blinked.)
Katlyn woke me up this morning (technically yesterday) to go to the Holi celebration that the ISA (Indian Student Association) and SIA (Society of Indian Americans) was holding.

I took a long hot shower afterwards.....my fingers are still stained pink right now.

Laptopless

Listening to: nothing because I am laptopless, internetless, and youtubless.

My laptop decided to have some hard drive problems, so I am currently laptopless.  It has been a bit stressful without a laptop but thank goodness for the library and their new hours of being open for 24 hours Sunday thru Friday.  I have been playing music in my head a lot lately.  I am deprived of music listening lately.  I was thankful for once hearing my neighbors blast their music.  Gahhhhhhhh!  I hope my laptop can get fixed ASAP! Toshiba has lame business hours; I called their number yesterday and they said to call back during their regular business hours Monday thru Friday.  You would think that a large company such as Toshiba would have 24 hour call lines--but they don't.  Ughhh....  So you would think that my productivity level of studying and getting work done would go up, but it hasn't at all! I usually listen to classical music whenever I'm doing work.  So working in dead silence alone in my room room has been driving me crazy.  Oh, and I've been on primary duty for the past two nights, which forces me to stay in my room all night from 6pm to 7am.  Worst time for a laptop to breakdown......but then again, is there ever a good time for a laptop to break down? Nope. Chuck Testa.
